Meet Dr. Alvin Jeffrey Cowans

Dr. Alvin Jeffrey Cowans is a practicing podiatric physician, specializing in Foot and Ankle Surgery in Douglasville, GA.

Dr. Cowans obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science & Health Promotion from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. He then went on to pursue a Masters in Science at Barry University and thereafter a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine. Following his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Cowans completed a three-year Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Residency at the Barry Foot and Ankle Institute at Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida. During residency, he received training in Forefoot and Rearfoot Reconstructive surgery.

He is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Georgia Podiatric Medical Association, and American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine.

Although Dr. Cowans is originally from Florida, he calls Georgia his home. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife Nikki and daughter Ava. In his free time, Dr. Cowans enjoys traveling, attending sporting events, and exercising.

Fun Fact

Dr. Cowans enjoys comic book movies and played college basketball for Florida Atlantic University.

During his four years as a student-athlete he earned Trans-American Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year and Sun-Belt All- Tournament team. He also played in the 2001-2002 NCAA basketball Tournament vs The University of Alabama.
